About the Practice

Family law since 1981 — built where family law meets business, land and wealth.

Mary Molloy Solicitors has practised family law from Dublin since 1981 — over 45 years of separations, divorces and the settlements that outlast them. This site exists for a specific kind of case: the divorce where the marriage’s assets are a business, a farm, pensions, property — where the legal questions are as much about valuation, disclosure and structure as they are about the marriage itself, and where both sides deserve representation that understands the assets as well as the Act.

Richard O’Shea, Solicitor

Richard leads the practice’s divorce and separation work with a formation unusual in Irish family law: the Law Society of Ireland’s Diploma in Mediation — relevant on every file, because the Mediation Act 2017 obliges solicitors to advise clients about mediation before proceedings issue, and advice from an actual mediator is a different quality of advice — and the TEP designation (Trust and Estate Practitioner), the international specialist credential for trusts, estates and succession: precisely the terrain that inherited assets, family businesses and estate-planning structures drag into a divorce. The firm’s dedicated agricultural practice at farmsolicitor.ie completes the set for farm cases: the yard’s realities are context here, not translation work.

How the Work Runs

The method is consistent across every file on this site: disclosure first — the full financial picture, sworn and tested, because no settlement built on an incomplete picture survives; the honest arithmetic in writing — the realistic range, the costs, the alternatives, before commitments are made; prepared for hearing, open to resolution — cases built as if for the courtroom settle better, and most settle; and tax routed properly — we do not advise on tax, and the transfers a divorce involves raise questions that belong with your accountant, working alongside us. Two offices serve the work: Ormond Quay in Dublin and Rose Inn Street in Kilkenny, with files run on documents, phone and video for clients everywhere between.
